Hotel Bed Bug Free Registry

You may remember the old saying  . . . “Sleep tight, don’t let the bed bugs bite.” Unfortunately today, that statement is one of reality in the hospitality industry.

Hotel Bed Bug Free Registry is a national registry site that contains a database of a combination of hotels, motels and vacation rental units who want the consumer traveler and business executive to recognize their property as being free from bed bugs.

There are numerous bed bug sites that detail the properties with “reported” bed bug infestations. The issue with those sites is that any individual, who perhaps did not have a satisfying stay at a property, can erroneously send information to these sites. Unfortunately, a significant amount of properties identified on those sites have in fact never been known to have any bed bug infestations.

This “epidemic” in the hospitality industry has caused a widespread loss of revenues for these properties and a devastating effect with regard to their reputations, not only with the hotels themselves, but the brands they represent.

Hotels, motels and vacation rental properties are spending thousands of dollars with pest management companies each quarter and year to ensure their properties are bed bug free. It only makes sense to proactively protect those investments by getting the property listed on this national registry site.

In addition to this site, a Smartphone application is under development that will allow anyone traveling to have the capability of inquiring with Hotel Bed Bug Free Registry as to whether your property is officially registered!

This site is dedicated to those hotels, motels, and vacation rental properties that want to set the record straight by having their property listed on this national registry as a property that is certified to be bed bug free!

First night a few bites..... Second night several bites. Reported it to the front desk manager and after waiting 45 minutes I told her I would come back... She never offered to change out room... Next night husband bit up. Room was 341. Harrahs Las Vegas

Olga: Thanks for your comment. I did take that into consideration when developing the site. I felt it important to get the key words included and since I provide the logo that you see on the website to the hotel who registers for them to download onto their own website, I felt that would be more important for them.

Wondering: Would not having a hotel's name associated with the term "Bed BUG" (even with the word "Free") be negative?

Need an entry for Washington DC - cannot seem to search on that.

Would further enhance the certification process on the home page - at first, I was not sure if this was a site that end consumers entered their opinion of bed bugs, or you sent a certification company to the hotel to certify. Will the consumer be able to view the certification documentation?

suggest not showing your names as POCs - with 2 people with same last name, looks like a mom and pop operation...

looks good - website colors, layout - nice job

Mitchell: Thanks for your comments. We will have the properties provide to us a certificate of inspection that they will submit that indicates they are bed bug free before they will be registered on the site.

The problem as I see it is that your registry has no more validation criteria than those sites where people complain about bedbugs during their hotel stay. A lodging could just as easily lie about being bedbug-free as disgruntled customers can lie about a venue being infested just to exact revenge on the property. Now, if it were possible to independently verify the bug-free status, you might have something-- but how can such verification take place in a hotel with hundreds of rooms, ...and all it takes is one guest accidentally bringing bedbugs to spoil the reputation of a hotel because of the 'presents' he/she leaves behind.

Love the idea of this web site. I plan on using it for future hotel stays. I know a couple of people who could also benefit. Thanks!!!
